Naseby

In 2022 I was asked to be part of the Naseby team.

The project consisted of designing multi-screen, cross-platform templates for the new BBC News studio named Studio B.
Coinciding with the airing of the new BBC Chameleon style - The overall BBC advertising, marketing, bulletins style and logo refresh done by Wolff Olins - the system had to align with its values and visual approach.

My role within the team was to help develop a series of templates that would fit into 3 different type of screens - Catwalk, Tower and Plasma - whilst also translating into full screen 16x9 graphics.

The biggest challenge we faced as a team was how flexible that one template had to be to accommodate the different screen sizes and the position of their respective safety guides.
Whilst working with the complex studio shots, we had to make sure the template was clear and concise enough to be used by several teams across the news department.

We were able to solve this by creating a clean looking format that took into account the amount of negative space shown depending on the camera shots, adapting image layouts and type sizes accordingly, whilst keeping the visual style aligned throughout.

Another part of my role in the team was to develop the new BBC News generic and Breaking News wipes. For animating the wipes I had to take into consideration whether the screen was horizontally or vertically arranged, having the motion reflect the orientation of the screen it was being used in.

The designs created fully embodied the Chameleon style and added clarity and consistency to all the ever-changing information provided by the BBC News.
